Surprise Mom!
February 20th, 2008 Posted 9:34 am
I went into Bella’s room last night when she woke up for her 2AM snack and I got a shock. I had put some warmer PJ’s on her last night so I didn’t feel like she needed the sleepsack to keep her warm. Therefore, she had the opportunity to practice her standing capabilities. She was standing up straight in the crib with her hands resting on the side of the crib just waiting for me to come get her. Thank God she isn’t tall enough to fall over the side. Lesson learned: Keep using the sleepsack and raise the side of the crib for safety sake.
Every day is something new, maybe today it will be a tooth, or saying Dada at the phone again:). She likes rolling the ball with me so maybe it will simply be another beautiful smile at me or her Dad when she hands us the ball back in order to roll it to her again. She gets so giddy when we play that game with her.
Today is picture day at school. I dressed her in a melon sweater outfit that her Aunt Linda gave her–used to be her cousin Rachel’s. Can’t wait to see how beautiful she is in those photos. We’ll share when we get those back.

Milestones are coming fast
February 17th, 2008 Posted 8:30 pm
A lot has happened since Christmas. She’s had an ear infection, congested cold, high fever and is now back to our beautiful sweet Bella. No teeth as of yet but she loves smiling really big and showing off her gums-it’s simply adorable when she puts her gums together and smiles really big as if she were preparing to show off some pearly whites:).
The week of New Year’s, I was taking Bella back home from daycare and I noticed she started talking in a different way than normal. I turned down the radio and sure enough, I could make out the word Dada. Of course, it started out like A-Da-Da with long pauses in between but over the next few weeks, she really perfected it. The first week of February, I was feeding Bella dinner in the dining room one evening and Paul came home and walked in thru the basement door. She immediately put on a big smile and stated emphatically ‘DaDa!’-I was simply giddy and you could tell Paul’s heart just melted with pride. Now he’s working with her to say ‘Mama’ for my sake but not a lot of progress in that area.
From the videos, you can see Bella has been mobile since before Christmas and worked hard to get to the official crawl. January 28th, she moved from the Infant room to the Crawler room at daycare and the next Tuesday, she was performing the official crawl like we’ve never seen before. By the end of the week, she was pulling up on everything to either eat it or help her get on her knees to prepare to stand. It won’t be long now before she’ll quickly move from the crawl to the walk/run. I sometimes feel sad that more family isn’t around to share in all these milestones with us but we still get a thrill out of each moment with her anyway.
We joined our local library a few weeks ago and we happened to catch Story Time yesterday morning. There were just a few moms and children in there but she truly enjoyed herself with the songs and activities and stories being told-Paul made sure he took some pics with his new phone so we wouldn’t miss out on all on what a great time she was having-she loves other kids. At the end, the librarian blew bubbles which was nice for all the kids. All the others were very careful not to trample on her during their playing and were enthralled with what an angel she was the whole time. And of course, how beautiful she is. The teacher asked what her name was and when we told her, she said, ‘Well, she most definitely is’ (Bella means beautiful in a couple of languages by the way, in case we haven’t said it before:). We’ll go back for story time tomorrow when she and I are off for President’s Day. Dad has to work but he’ll join us next time.
Today was her first day in church nursery for Sunday School and worship service. I asked Paul if we could check in on her during the break and he knew I’d want to since she had just gotten over her fever and had been very cuddly at home. Everyone in the nursery loves taking care of her so of course she was on the floor having a blast with the kids and all the adults were just enjoying watching how happy she is.
I had to quit breastfeeding last week for several reasons and that was very hard on me emotionally and of course I blamed myself for the fever she got right after and her rotten cold but the doctor said she’ll be fine and she’s doing well on formula and her regular baby food so I guess she’s big enough to do without my milk now. I’m still very emotional and anxious but the doctor thinks it’s a side effect of going off the lactation medication I was taking. If this is anything like post partum depression, I have a whole new level of sympathy for those women that have gone thru that. It’s hard feeling like this all the time and not being able to do anything about it but pray and wait it out. Paul has been wonderful thru it all. Very supportive, loving and sweet as always-I won’t go into gushy details but trust me, he’s wonderful! I know he feels helpless with what I’m going thru but I feel about as helpless as he does with all this. We have each other and Bella too so I focus hard on that and on my work when I’m there and the days are just going by.
Bella’s back to her normal sleep pattern now so I can look forward to a great day with my baby girl tomorrow and just hope that Paul gets to come home to us from his job in Charleston tomorrow.
