A visit from 'The Treasures' in July

July 21st, 2008 Posted 9:52 am

Bella had a blast with The Treasures when they visited this past weekend.  It was Aunt Misty’s birthday and Aunt Dora’s 23rd anniversary.  Aunt Dora and cousin Jedediah came down from Chesapeake VA on Thursday evening and caught Bella in the middle of her bath.  We hadn’t seen each other since Brenda’s wedding 3 years ago so they had never met Bella before.  They saw her for the first time wrapped in a large towel and her wet curls sticking to her head-adorable, as usual.  They spent Friday hanging out at the house and visited Discovery Place in Charlotte while we were at work and Bella was at daycare.  Bella and I came home early that Friday to spend time with them and Paul got home in time for us to go out to eat.

Bella tried seared Ahi for the first time and she loved it-she had 3 slices of it and wanted more but then I made her snack on some lettuce, which she didn’t care for:).  After dinner that night, we came home and got Bella into bed then Paul took Jeddy to a late night movie-Batman, the Dark Knight was opening that weekend so they didn’t get in until the 10:30 showing.  Aunt Misty, Aunt LaVona and Cousin Mark arrived right about midnight and Bella woke up soon after then, which she always does-it’s as if she senses there are more people to love and hug on her and she can’t stay asleep with all that going on.

Paul and Jeddy got home around 1:30am Saturday morning and we were still up laughing and talking.  Of course, Dad was a little upset that Bella was awake with us but he got over it quickly after getting some of her kisses.  We all slumped into bed around quarter after 2 that morning.  We were up again around 7 making breakfast and plans for the day.  By the way, we saw that Bella got her 5th tooth that day also.  It was the tooth to the side of her left front tooth that will probably come thru in another week too.

Around lunch time we all went to the US National Whitewater Center which is only about 10 minutes from our house.  It’s a controlled water rapids center that is like a water park where regular citizens can buy tickets and participate in a guided raft ride down the rapids.  We couldn’t afford to pay for everyone to go on a ride but the facility was beautiful and while it was extremely hot that day, we all had a great time getting to walk around looking at the activities and scenary.  Maybe we’ll plan way ahead and budget for a ride next time The Treasures come to visit.

Paul cooked some delectable flank steak and we had veggies and dessert that night for dinner and played games and laughed hysterically while playing Zilch most of the night.  Yes, Cousin Mark won again and then we all sort of gave up.  That left Jeddy in 2nd place so he was pretty upset about quitting but we were all so tired, we finally got into bed around 1:30 Sunday morning.  We all got up around 7 again and had breakfast at a local dive down the street-good food but tight space and really smoky.  Misty, LaVona and Mark left at 9:30 after breakfast and Dora and Jeddy went to church with us and left after church around 11:30.  We rested that night but we all reveled in the great time we had with The Treasures during their visit.  Come again, you guys!

#1 Grossest thing I've done as a Mom

Hopefully, you haven’t just eaten when you read this.  Yesterday after work, Paul and I were working on dinner and Bella was so hungry she was eating up a storm and couldn’t wait for our dinner so I started feeding her whatever I could find in the house.  She had a small bowl of veggies (carrots, soy beans and black beans-which she loves by the way), a bowl of fruit cocktail, a whole banana (and a slice of london broil and handful of rice when our dinner finally was complete).  Ever so often throughout dinner, she would stop and act like she was pooping so when she said she was all done, I took her to the nursery for a new diaper.

Upon removing her diaper, all that was there was a little rabbit size poop in her butt cheeks.  I felt so bad for her having to push and push and only getting that little bit out.  I proceeded to clean her up and just as I was trying to decide whether or not to put a new diaper on her or just start her bath, she starting pushing hard again.  I immediately ran her to the bathroom and sat her on the toilet to avoid a mess.  She didn’t like this at all since she’s never used the toilet before but I held her there hugging her and trying to get Paul to find a ball to distract her.  I knew that since we were already there, being in that position would be the best thing for her little tummy to get out what she needed to.

So she finally went and it was all better.  I cleaned her up and she was happier than I’ve ever seen her running around with her little goodies hanging out and a empty colon:).  Paul and I were very impressed with what she left behind in the toilet.  We didn’t realize that she actually puts out adult sized stuff – it looks a little different when it’s squished up in a diaper.  So as I reached to flush the toilet, my mom instincts kicked in and I asked Paul if he thought I should take a photo of it.  He looked at me like I’d lost my mind but the words that came out were ‘That’s up to you’-which here means that when Bella finds out that we did this, he can take no blame in this awful crime of embarrassment against our daughter.

Long story short, you won’t see it on the blog with this story but the photo does exist and it will definitely make its way to our archive of pics to keep as one of Bella’s 1st’s.

Bella used to love this bouncy thing when she was younger but quit liking it. Now that we have it collapsed and ready to take to storage, all of a sudden she’s interested in it again.

Bella is a good eater, okay she’s a little piglet!  She loves her food and will eat almost anything.  Let me see-she doesn’t like collard greens or grits.  Yep, that’s it.  Now I’ll list a few things she’s tried to give you an idea of what a good eater she is.  She loves the usual strawberries, grapes, bananas but what about cantaloupe and avacado.  She devours green beans, potatoes (cooked anyway), carrots but what about radishes and speckled beans (heck, she’ll eat any kind of bean you put in front of her).  She’ll eat pizza, chicken (pretty much anyway you cook it), lasagna, meatloaf, chicken salad, macaroni salad, potatoe salad, omelettes, pancakes, ice cream, waffles, roast beef sandwiches, etc. etc.  You get the picture.  We do limit her sugar intake and her juice intake as well but the occasional treat isn’t going to kill her as long as we moderate it so she’s stays little sweet Bella-it’s been working great so far.  Everyone still loves our Bella-but especially her Mom and Dad.
