10/05/08 – I suspect Bella will be ready to surf the Web long before I’m ready for her to be. Of course that may be OK because that means she can take over her website that much sooner

Biting Frenzy

Our dear sweetie has confused excitement and kisses with biting. She has been biting us for several weeks now and although we try to stop her, it’s hard to figure out the right response since she always does it as part of a hug or play wrestle with us. At daycare though, she bit a kid when they took her toy but then other times, she bites them like she’s just saying ‘hello’. Now that she has 7 teeth, the bites do hurt pretty bad. We’ve tried everything from being stern in our saying ‘no’ or ‘stop’ or ‘no biting’, to spanking her bottom, to actually biting her back (which broke my heart to do).
After several weeks of this, she finally started trailing off the biting when I switched to saying ‘kisses not bites’ and making her kiss whomever on the spot where she had bit them. Within a day or two, she had stopped biting and hasn’t bit us or anyone else at school since. This all may be a coincidence or the kisses thing might have been the key-not sure. I’m just glad she’s over it for now.
