11/28/08 – April works with a lady named Gail who loves horses and rescues ones that might otherwise not have a home. Gail graciously let Bella and her cousins come over and ride the horses – a really cool experience.

11/19/08 – Babies are always cute in the bath for some reason but what makes this video special is it’s the first time we got Bella to sing along with something.

Big Girl no longer needing to use the baby weight scale

November 18th, 2008 Posted 10:00 pm

As I was just telling Paul about this milestone and how the doctor weighed Bella on the big people scale today, he informed me that this milestone was reached at the last doctor’s visit when she was sick last month.  And to boot, I just asked him how much she weighed last month and he couldn’t remember.  And then he had the nerve to say ‘I don’t think they told me’.  All the moms out there say with me,  Dada, this is why I don’t let you take her to the doctor’s office!

I’m just kidding honey.  I realize you’re not very observant and all I really care about is that you were wonderful enough to stay home with our baby when she was sick, gently care for her each time she threw up, clean up her messes without complaining and still have the energy to cuddle with her afterwards, in addition to taking her to the doctor when she wasn’t getting better (after you’d been up all night with her).  I love you!

Singing is a new talent

Bella was sick at daycare today so after I picked her up around 3:30, I took her to see the doctor and said her fever was coming down but to keep an eye on her for the next 2 days and there was nothing bacterial found.  Paul and I were coddling her all night and as we were putting her to bed, we played on the floor with her a little bit.  She was laying in Paul’s lap and I was singing to her as I brushed her hair and went thru a ton of songs.  After I sang the song ‘The Wheels on the Bus’, she started saying ‘again’.  So I’d start over and add new verses to it each time.  I ran out of verses so I kept singing the verse about the wheels until I was almost getting sick of it.  Then all of the sudden Paul and I realized that each time I would get to the part about ‘all thru the town’, Bella would chime in and sing words that sounded just like that, the right tune and everything.

Paul and I started making a point to focus on that part and sure enough, that was exactly what she was doing.  The pride that was showing on Paul’s face mirrored what I was feeling about this new accomplishment.  When I quit singing, she started walking around me in circles singing that line over and over again and I couldn’t help but giggle at our sweet little Bella growing up to be a big girl (by the way, the doctor weighed her and she’s 26 lbs. now).  We’ll have to tape it one day soon while it’s still fresh, cute and totally incomprehensible to anyone else but Mama and Dada-just a special moment for the 2 of us that others can observe.

Play Date for Bella and Blake

Blake is the son of a gentleman I work with, Bob Hillyard.  He and his wife Ellen get together with Paul and I ever so often and now that we have children about the same age, our get-togethers are extra special.  Blake is 21 months old and Bella is 17 months old right now.  Bob said Blake was talking about Bella the whole way to our house on Sunday-it’s cool to think he’s old enough to remember her now.  When they arrived, Blake and Bella stood and stared at each other for a few seconds before they gave each other hugs and kisses-so sweet!

From the moment Bella became accustomed to the new guests (which didn’t take long), she immediately began putting on the charm and didn’t stop until she had told them all ByeBye.  Blake couldn’t stop crying when they left but I think he was just tired.  My favorite part of the evening was when Bella was showing Blake the boo-boo on her hand and put it to his lips to kiss.  He actually did and we all laughed but then Bella took it to the next level by continuing to do it so many times that eventually she was just slapping him in the face.  We had to make ourselves stop laughing before Bella slapped him silly.  Blake looked like he was enjoying it at first but then just looked at us all with a sad plea in his eyes that cried out for help.  Too funny!  (Blake, I apologize on Bella’s behalf for any hurt she may have caused you)

They are cute together and have fun playing together.  Now if I can just get Bella to share her toys with him and quit trying to push him around…
