Turn it off
June 8th, 2009 Posted 8:04 pm
During dinner this evening, Bella turned to us and said ‘turn it off please’. We had no idea what she was talking about so Paul asked ‘turn what off’ to which she replied ‘turn the light off’. Once Paul had dimmed the lights in the dining room for her, we all determined that was better (realized she was a lot like her Papa Lee with the darkness) and she never mentioned it again.
It’s amazing how she’s communicating with each of us so well. What a smart girl!

Bossy Bossy

Bella is a great communicator and Paul and I were just talking about it when Bella began ordering us around. She had retrieved the nail clippers from her nursery and began to order us both to sit on the floor (mind you, we were still finishing our dinner) so she could properly cut our toe nails. I giggled and got on the floor where Bella had her fun. Then it was Daddy’s turn. When she turned to Daddy and told him to get on the floor, he did immediately respond. She asked a few more times nicely but when he still wouldn’t budge, she pointed a finger into his arm and said ‘now’. What?!? We could hardly contain our laughter.
Later on in the evening, I had finished reading a Bible story to her about baby Isaac with his Daddy Abraham and Mama Sarah and began talking about when Bella was a baby. At the end of the story, I started fake crying which Bella loved and she kept asking for ‘more crying please’. When I was ready to quit, she wasn’t and ordered me with a finger in my chest and a loud ‘more crying now’. That was the end of it. Hopefully it’s nipped in the bud.
Just as I was leaving her room for the night, I had finished her request for ‘Jesus loves the little children’ (twice) and told her to sing it to herself as I was leaving. She loudly began singing her version of the song which is so adorable, I had to leave the door open so Paul could hear some of it from where he was at in the bathroom. As I turned around to see her again, she asked for more kisses please which I obliged. I turned around with a proud Mama smile on my face only to hear behind me ‘go away and close the door’-with a little smile in her tone. Paul and I could barely contain our laughter as we left our ‘sweety’ in the bed for the evening.

Tyler’s Bday Party
June 7th, 2009 Posted 7:42 pm
There is a boy at church that is 1 week younger than Bella who had a birthday today. He invited Bella to his birthday party which was after church this afternoon. All weekend, she’s been asking when we were going to Tyler’s house. Finally, it arrived and we dressed up Bella in her cute little purple bathing suit and made our way out there after her nap. When we arrived, she yelled out ‘Tyler’s house’ as if she remembers going there last summer or something-her memory is amazing! She barely touched the water at all and freaked out everytime she thought we were going to make her touch it. BTW, Tyler lives on a lake. His dad just built a huge waterslide which I knew Paul wanted to try out. I walked up the stairs to the top of the slide and held Bella while we watched Paul shoot down the enormous slide. He went down so fast and went straight under the water when he hit the bottom that Bella began screaming for her Daddy immediately. After a few times, she was able to calm down which is good because the slide was really fun (not that I tried it myself-but it looked fun if you look past the extreme fear of water lurking behind every urge to try it on my part). I’m sure Bella feels that but it’s hard for me to get over it enough to take swimming lessons with her.
Bella started making friends with all the people at the party (mostly the grandparents) and working her way into their hearts. By the time we left, we have several requests to let them take Bella home with us. Of course we declined since we could just eat her up ourselves too.
As many times as she would practice singing Happy Birthday Dear Tyler, she never did perform it for anyone at the party. We have a video of it so maybe we’ll email it to them instead.

I 2!
June 7th, 2009 Posted 7:33 pm
Yes, Bella made it to 2! I started practicing with her about a week ago on how to say ‘two’ whenever I ask her how old she is. Once she got that down after about 2 days, I started trying holding up 2 fingers also. That was a little rough for her poor fingers but thanks to Aunt Dora’s suggestion, we have a cute Bella holding up her index finger on each hand, holding them up next to each other right in front of her mouth before she puckers up to say ‘Two’ every time someone asks her how old she is now. Everyone just falls in love with her all over again when she does it-absolutely adorable.
For her birthday weekend, Grandma Duck and Aunt Shasta, Victoria and Luke came to visit us. Aunt Shasta and the kids bought Bella a pool with a small ladder and slide to it (boy you should have seen Shasta and I tying it to the top of her truck in order to get it home-talk about ‘Jerry Rigged’). I had ordered a Strawberry Shortcake cake for her birthday (for our little strawberry shortcake:) and bought balloons and helium tank to decorate the party since she is in love with balloons right now. Friday night when the family arrived, Bella had a fantastic time starting with the surprise that Luke and Victoria were in the car waiting for her when I picked her up from daycare that afternoon. She greeted everyone including Grandma Duck with smiles, kisses and hugs and was on cloud 9 all weekend until the had to leave on Sunday.
Grandma Duck (Thompson) slept in the spare bed in Bella’s nursery while Shasta and the kids shared the guest bedroom downstairs. On Saturday morning, Grandma got up before Bella did so when I got Bella that morning and let her greet everyone good morning, she ran out of her bedroom, ran into the kitchen and saw Grandma sitting at the dining room table. She ran to her smiling while saying ‘good mornin’ Grandma Duck’, followed by hugs and kisses. Grandma’s face lit up and from that moment on didn’t mind that we had nicknamed her Grandma Duck (she’s always hated her childhood nickname of Duck-they called her that because she was a chubby child and waddled when she walked-cute, huh?). By the way, we stole that from Aunt Misty since that’s what she’s been teaching her granddaughter Alice to call Grandma Thompson too.
The following morning, Bella woke up before Grandma did but must have been just standing in the crib waiting for Grandma to roll over. About 6am, we heard Grandma rolling over in bed and as the bed creaked telling us she had sat up ready to get out of bed, we heard Bella greet her loud and clear with a ‘Hi’-having been greeted this way many times ourselves, Paul and I knew the beautiful and sweet smile the Grandma had just woken up to find-boy, she’s a lucky lady to experience that-Grandma Duck says that’s one of her favorite memories of the weekend.
We have more photos and video online from the party, please see what Paul has posted for June’s party. A funny part about the party is that the family had dinner on the deck since the weather was so great. On Monday, when we had our private little party with just the 3 of us, she requested to eat dinner outside and as we began to eat, she began to label each chair of who’s chair we were sitting in. She remembered where every person sat for her birthday dinner that Saturday before. What a bright young girl she is!
