First Haircut

July 20th, 2009 Posted 9:12 pm

I finally broke down and admitted that Bella needed her first haircut.  I’m sure I could’ve waited but I love her beautiful curls so much that I couldn’t help but thinking how much prettier they would be if she had a slight trim-NO, I’m not letting her have BANGS DADDY!

On July 18th, We went a boutique that specializes in kids haircuts where she could have her choice of sitting in a fire truck, airplace, old car or tractor.  She picked the old black car and was a very good girl the entire event.  I had been prepping her by telling what we would do and what would take place a few days in advance.  The first time I got to the haircut part and brushed her hair back gently with my hands all over saying gently ‘snip, snip, snip’-she freaked out on me.  The next day was a little better and by the third day, she wanted to give me and Paul a ‘haircut’.  It was cute seeing her rub her hands all over our heads while she said sweetly ‘snip, snip, snip’.  The one thing I forgot to prepare her for was the robe that goes around their neck.  She looked at me with frightened eyes and I simply called it her special jacket to go with her special haircut.  Then she was completely fine with it.  While you could see she was leery, she behaved herself very well and was quiet the entire time.  By the time we finished, the lady almost swept up her hair and didn’t give me any because she forgot this was her first haircut.  While I understand why she forgot, she did almost get herself knocked out.  It was weird that I got so emotional at the thought of her hair going in the trash.  I was okay with the haircut but as we left and I had my hair sample for her memory book, she had her prize and a few hairbows to take home with her, I noticed a lock of her hair that had been blown under the couch in the room.  I had to force myself not to bend down and pick it up to ‘save’ it from being thrown in the garbage as if it were trash-the thought!

Okay, I’m back to normal and Bella’s hair is looking better than ever.  We had them give her just a slight trim on the bottom and all around.  This did make her bangs more pronounced but at least their even and can grow at the same rate.  It’s so long, I always have to keep it up in order to keep it out of her eyes.  Paul will really need to step up and learn how to fix Bella’s hair on a regular basis since he takes her to school and she’s not even awake by the time I leave each morning.  For now, the fix will be that I fix her hair each night as Paul reads her a story.  She loves doing this and somehow it’s like that’s the trick to make her sit still to listen to the books finally-I wish I had known that 6 months ago when she quit listening to the books:).

Everyone loves her hair still and it’s easier to fix since it’s getting so long.  My courage even convinced my friend to get her daughter’s hair cut for the first time and she’s 6 months older than Bella!

Bike riding

07/20/09 – Mommy and Daddy have decided to ride their bikes on the weekend to try to get some exercise so they had to get a seat for Bella. This is the iBert safe-T-seat and it really works out well. Bella absolutely loves riding up front and it’s much easier to ride with her up there.

Riding a tricycle

July 15th, 2009 Posted 9:24 pm

We went to Wal-Mart last night and were looking for a stool for Bella to help her wash her hands on her own as part of the potty process.  In our search, we ran across the aisle where the bikes and tricycles are.  I put Bella on a little motor bike looking thing with training wheels and we had fun with that.  After a while,  I switched her to a small tricycle that was more her size.  She immediately began pedaling down the aisle toward her father.  While I stood there stunned and got Paul’s attention, we both stood there in awe that she was doing it all by herself and we never knew she could even pedal.  I’m sure we looked pretty stupid with mixed emotions on our faces-while stunned in disbelief at this mature act, we were extremely proud of how well Bella was riding the bike.  We looked at buying her one immediatly but we couldn’t believe they wanted $50 for something she would obviously outgrow in no time-even just because her legs are so long.

Every day it seems like she gets noticeably taller, more intelligent and more vocal – alright, with all that she does have more crying spells but we’re working on that.  It seems like everything quickly turns into a whining/crying session so I have to keep reminding her that I can’t understand her when she cries, remind her to talk instead of crying, and while I’m not sure she understands, I do remind her that some of her crying/whining spells shows that she’s acting ugly and we don’t behave like that.  Loving her is too easy so the struggles we go thru together are easier to handle because she is learning to listen to us more and more.  Potty training is going great!!!  Although she doesn’t like it when I make her go, knowing I have to make her try every so often-she doesn’t like it but most of the time, she winds up using it anyway.  I’m sure she’ll realize how this all works very shortly-she is very bright, and I’m not the only one saying so either:).

The teeth just keep coming.

Okay, I was going to write a post about Bella’s new tooth right before we left for San Diego on 6/14 but then got caught up in the horrible-ness it was of leaving my daughter for 4 days-okay, I’m over it already!

Her right fang tooth on the bottom starting shining thru a few days before 6/14 and then when we came back on 6/18, I was looking at the tooth’s progress and noticed all 4 of her fang teeth were coming in at the same time, just a little behind one another.  I checked again last night and the left bottom fang tooth is almost all the way up like the right one is.  The two on the top are already poking their heads out of the gum and shouldn’t be causing her anymore issues.  She was spitting up on Thursday night and Friday night, then had diarrhea all day on Sunday-wonder if all that was related to the tooth-if it was, it was hard to tell because she’d spit up and then go right back to playing and being sweet.

She was really funny about the diarrhea but I’m hard pressed to post that info since it’s kinda gross.  Okay here goes.  You know how she likes to toot with her dad (goes back to her great sense of humor) but she told us she had to potty every time she tooted cuz she knew she was spilling out of her booty.  The funniest part was when Paul had cleaned up from the first incident on Sunday morning, he was letting her play on the spare bed downstairs while he was cleaning up her crib and stuff from the night before ( a mess we won’t discuss at all), she was supposed to be putting on her big girl panties but instead she had a blow out on the bed while she was playing around but naked then told Paul ‘Look Daddy, I made juice from my booty’.  Okay, it was really funny for me because I was sick upstairs from vomiting all night long and unfortunately Paul had been vomiting too but felt good enough to start his day-a day he wished had never happened.  We love you Daddy!  Thank you for taking care of us when we can’t take care of ourselves.

Growing up faster than I’d like…

July 13th, 2009 Posted 9:43 pm

I picked up Bella at school today and she was so enthralled with her tricycle, she didn’t jump off immediately and run towards me.  Instead, she began showing me how fast she could pedal it (she wasn’t really pedaling it-she was just hoofin’ it with her feet-but she was really good at it).  She jumped off when she got close to the gate, she turned around to all her friends and said ‘goodbye everybody’ and turned to go inside.  A little girl immediately jumped on the toy she had just been riding and Bella just told her goodbye and kept moving.  I’ve never seen Bella release her clutches on a toy, even if she was done with it and headed home-her territory boundaries reach farther than other children think, obviously.  I was so proud of her but at the same time a little sad at how fast my baby was growing up.

When we were in the car, I asked her if she had a good day.  She replied ‘yeh’.  I then asked her what she did at school to which she began saying ‘umm ummm-I had a popsicle’.  She told me it was an orange one and she liked it.  I promised her a red one when we got home which really got her excited.  When we arrived home,  she didn’t forget a second of the talk we had.  She sat down on the floor with her Daddy and ate half of a large popsicle.  She knew how to suck the juice out from the bottom, eat the ice little by little.  She bit off a piece way too big for her but kept on chewing it til it was gone without spilling a bit of it.  Then she handed it to her dad and said ‘I no like popsicles’ and we knew she was done.  As Paul was taking it from her, it slipped and spilled a litte bit on the floor.  I gave Paul and Bella each a napkin to clean it up and she knelt down right next to her dad to clean up the mess-even handed it to me when she was done asking ‘I all done-throw it away Mama’.

Every day Paul and I are amazed at her thought process and more matured skills grow each day.  Our sweet Bella is growing into a smart and wonderful child.

Jacksonville Zoo

07/03/09 – Sure the zoo has elephants and giraffes and jaguars and chimps but Bella’s not really into that at this stage; no, it was the concrete slide and merry-go-round that got her attention.
